The Confluence Point, locally known as "Sangam," is located near Nimmu village, about 35 km from Leh. Here, the mighty Indus River meets the Zanskar River, creating a stunning visual spectacle where two rivers of distinctly different colors merge.
The Indus River, originating from Tibet, carries a muddy brown color, while the Zanskar River, flowing from the Zanskar Range, has a striking turquoise blue-green color. The contrast between these two rivers creates a mesmerizing sight that has become one of Ladakh's most photographed locations.
The confluence is best viewed from the viewpoint on the Leh-Srinagar Highway. The colors are most vivid during summer months when the water levels are optimal. During winter, the Zanskar River freezes, creating the famous Chadar ice trek route.
