Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist white-domed stupa on a hilltop in Changspa, Leh district. It was built in 1991 by Japanese Buddhist Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura and is part of the Peace Pagoda mission, which aims to promote world peace.
The stupa holds the relics of the Buddha at its base, which were enshrined by the 14th Dalai Lama. The monument was built to commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism and to promote world peace.
Located on a steep hill, the stupa can be reached by climbing over 500 steps or by a motorable road. The site offers breathtaking panoramic views of Leh town, the Stok Kangri range, and the surrounding valleys, especially beautiful during sunrise and sunset.
